MAC for Gareth Pugh Guise Pigment Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Guise Pigment ($32.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “frosty grey.” It’s more like a bright silver with a part-frost Coach Factory Outlet Online, part-metallic finish. What’s noteworthy about the color is that it doesn’t lean cool, it’s more of a neutral silver. It was fairly pigmented when used dry and more metallic and opaque when applied wet. The texture is much chunkier compared to Deceit, and I did experience some fall out when an hour after it was applied to the eyelid. MAC Misty is a bit darker and cooler-toned. It’s smoother and grayer than Bobbi Brown Tinsel. I didn’t find anything exactly like it.

MAC for Gareth Pugh: Guise Pigment

Like the blush in this collection, MAC is again squeezing you on both ends: a full-size pigment contains 0.15 oz. and retails for $20.00 each (and they already reduced the amount of all full-size pigments across the board a year or two ago). The packaging looks sleek, but it’s a bit messy. Guise had loose pigment all over the exterior packaging and inner lip upon arrival–I hadn’t even opened it yet! These are entirely plastic, too; there’s no heft from the metal compact like there is with the blush. On the upside, most other high-end brands that have similar loose products typically give around this amount of product (e.g. Illamasqua Pure Pigment is $24.00/0.04 oz. and Make Up For Ever Star Powder is $19.00/0.09 oz.).

MAC actually describes the formula as having ingredients that help it adhere to the skin so it is long-lasting. Pigments are best when combined with other products, whether it’s simply water or more like MAC Mixing Medium, to adhere to skin. I get decent wear out of pigments without a base (six to eight hours, then there is minor fading and at times, subtle creasing), but I would recommend using a base or mixing them with an adhesive base product like Mixing Medium. Guise did have some fall out when applied dry, because of the chunkier texture and sparkle.

Bare Escentuals

Bare Escentuals The 15 Minutes Ready Eyeshadow Duo

Bare Escentuals The 15 Minutes Ready Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) contains two shades: Page Six (sandy pink sheen) and Most Requested (burgundy sparkle). This is one of seven new duos for spring/summer.  Each duo is packaged in a rubberized plastic compact with a full-size mirror inside and a sponge-tipped applicator. Each eyeshadow is the size of the average full-size eyeshadow (0.05 oz.).

Where to Buy: Bare Escentuals, $20

I’m a huge, huge fan of the Ready Eyeshadows.  The formula is soft, dense, and feels almost creamy, and it applies smooth as silk against the skin, whether over a primer or on bare lids. I get a full eight hours of wear without creasing or fading when I wear the formula on bare lids or over a primer, so it’s great to have that versatility. The 15 Minutes works together, which is always nice, though they are easily used alone or with other eyeshadows you have in your stash. Most Requested has noticeable sparkle, so there is some fall out during application and the majority of the sparkle doesn’t translate onto the lid (gets lost somewhere between the brush and the lid).

Most Requested is a red-toned medium-dark brown with burgundy tones. It also has subtle sivler and ruby sparkle. It has mostly opaque color coverage and applies smoothly. Dolce & Gabbana Cocoa is a little lighter and browner. Bare Escentuals Kismet is very similar, perhaps a touch browner, and doesn’t have sparkle. Chanel Ebloui is darker.

Page Six is a warm strawberry pink with subtle golden shimmer and a frosted, metallic sheen. It’s soft, smooth Coach Factory Outlet Online, and opaque in color. MAC Rose Light is pinker, not as yellow-toned. Lancome Kitten Heel is a smidgen lighter and has a stronger golden sheen. Inglot #399 is darker. Giorgio Armani #7 is darker, less pink.

China Glaze & Hunger Games Collection Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)

The formula was inconsistent, but overall, it fell short of my expectations for China Glaze, which is a brand that usually releases colors with a great formula.  The creams had a thicker consistency that almost felt runny.  You really need to make sure to wipe off excess before applying to the nail to avoid having a pool of color.  Electrify has a thicker consistency, which was expected, because of the clear base, but it distributed the glitter fairly evenly.  Agro and Harvest Moon had the best formula from these six, and their drying time felt fast.

China Glaze Colours from the Capitol Collection is slated for March launch. It features twelve shades with each shade being named after a different district. This post features these six: Agro, Dress Me Up, Electrify, Fast Track, Foie Gras, and Harvest Moon. Reader Kim did an excellent job explaining the names-to-district component.

China Glaze & Hunger Games Collection: Colours from the Capitol

  • Agro is a rich, dark olive green with subtle yellow undertones and olive gold shimmer and metallic threads. This shade is named after District 11 for agriculture. I used two coats for opaque color, and it had a good consistency. Cult Nails In a Trance is much lighter, more olive green without a blackened edge. China Glaze It’s Alive has similar color components but looks totally different. NARS Mash looks almost the same.
  • Dress Me Up is a dusty, rose peach with a cream finish. This shade was named after District 8 for textiles. I used two coats for opaque color, but the consistency was a little thick. Zoya Pandora is lighter. Nubar Moire is darker.
  • Electrify is red and gold glitter suspended in a clear base. This shade was named after District 5 for power. I did two coats by itself, and it’s not quite opaque–with a little patience, I think you could manage to achieve almost opaque color coverage with three coats. I couldn’t think of a dupe for this one.
  • Fast Track is a grayish beige with pale yellow gold flecks of shimmer. It’s not quite opaque after two coats. This shade was named after District 6 for transportation. China Glaze Knotty is lighter. China Glaze Ingrid seemed really similar when I swatched this initially Coach Outlet Online, but it’s much darker.
  • Foie Gras is a purple-tinted brown cream. It was opaque after two coats, but it was a little thick. This shade was named after District 10 for livestock. China Glaze Street Chic is browner. Urban Decay Barlust has a similar color but has shimmer.
  • Harvest Moon is a rich, warm copper with lighter copper shimmer. It was opaque in two coats. This shade was named after District 9 for grain. Zoya Tanzy is much more orange. Nubar Caramello is similar but a little more orange.

MAC Me Over

Where to Buy: MAC Cosmetics, $14.50 each

MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented, and the texture and color vary depending on the finish. Lustre lipsticks tend to have sheerer color with a glossier finish. They are supposed to be moisturizing, but I have always found them drying, and they have a tendency to wear off within two to three hours–faster if the shade is light. Satin lipsticks are more opaque with a creamier finish and tend to wear longer (four to five hours). Matte lipsticks wear well (four to five hours) but can sometimes be dry.

There are eight shades of MAC Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) launched with MAC Me Over. They include: Offshoot (mid-tone neutral pink), Oh, Oh, Oh (plum bronze with pearlized pigments), Peachstock (neutral peach), Prince Noir (deep blue-purple), Rebel (vivid pinkish purple), Runaway Red (rich red-blue), Secret Lover (pale pink with yellow pearlized pigments), and Smoked Purple (deep eggplant purple).

MAC Me Over: Lipsticks

MAC Me Over is a 51-piece collection for fall, which will launch in North America on August 25th, 2011 and internationally in September 2011. It will launch online approximately August 23rd but there is no concrete online launch date. All products–unless otherwise noted–are limited edition.

  • Offshoot is a pink-plum with subtle red undertones. This shade has a cremesheen finish. The color coverage is nearly opaque, but it has the drier texture of a cremesheen, so it doesn’t feel thick or overly creamy. It is similar to Maybelline Bit of Berry but more muted. It is plummier than MAC Craving. Hourglass Nocturnal is slightly redder.
  • Oh, Oh, Oh is a pink-plum with gold shimmer. The color is semi-opaque but true to the lustre finish. This shade has a lustre finish. It is sheerer and less burgundy than Benefit Breakup Rumour. It is plummier than MAC Capricious. Looks like it is similar to Plum Dandy but pinker.
  • Peachstock is a light-medium beige with the warmth of peach. It’s opaque when applied. This shade has a satin finish, and it is permanent at PRO stores. It’s a bit lighter than MAC Imagine This and OCC Trick.
  • Prince Noir is a deep, dark burgundy with red undertones and subtle shimmer. This shade has a matte finish. The color coverage is opaque, and I can see that this would would have a tendency to bleed around the edges, particularly if you find you are prone to that (I am not, but it did bleed a bit on me). It reminded me of a better quality Chanel Maniac. Make Up For Ever #49 is much purpler.
  • Rebel is a rich burgundy with a fuchsia shimmer and vibrancy. The color is mostly opaque when applied. This shade has a satin finish, and it is permanent. It is darker and more vibrant than Guerlain Bee but deeper than Dolce & Gabbana Orchid.
  • Runaway Red is a medium-dark blue-based red with a subtle fuchsia sheen. It’s mostly opaque on lips Coach Outlet Online, but there is a hint of translucence. This shade has a satin finish. Make Up For Ever #48 and MAC Dark Side are browner. Guerlain Gwen is closer but not quite as dark. MAC Digna is similar but not as opaque.
  • Secret Lover imparts no real color but lots of beige and pale gold shimmer. This shade has a lustre finish. It is similar to MAC Pretty Please.
  • Smoked Purple is a dark eggplant purple with cool undertones. The color is mostly opaque, but the lipstick itself is quite dry so it’s difficult to get a really even layer. It will tug and drag across the lips. This shade has a matte finish, and it is permanent at PRO stores. Dolce & Gabbana Lust is less purple, while Make Up For Ever #48 is closer, it’s less purple/browner. MAC Faultlessly F/W is darker, purpler.

Chanel Holiday 2011: Rouge Carat Le Vernis

Where to Buy: Nordstrom, $25

Chanel Rouge Carat Le Vernis ($25.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is an intense, luxuriously ruby-shimmered red with blue undertones. The formula is lovely; the consistency is thin without being watery, so the polish flows evenly across the nail surface but still packs a lot of pigment in each coat. I only needed two coats for opaque color with Rouge Carat. I’ve had good luck with Chanel’s formula myself, as I don’t find it chips or bubbles and generally wears a week with minor tip wear.  Though the shade is surely gorgeous, red is such a common polish shade that most brands have half a dozen or more variations on it. You might consider these alternatives: Zoya Lisa Coach Outlet, Zoya Carrie Ann, Milani Melt Down, or Duri Bombshell.

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

The Glossover

Aqua Creams work well on the cheeks as far as wear goes, and lower shimmer shades like #10 add color easily that also sticks around for eight hours or longer. Because it has a softer finish, it doesn’t emphasize pores, so it sits well on the skin. What I really like is that these don’t remain sticky on the cheeks, which many cream blushes do. On the lips Coach Outlet Online, I find this one stains a bit, and again, because the finish has less frost in it, it is not as drying as other Aqua Creams have been for me. It’s not my first choice in lip color, because it’s not hydrating and a bit drying, but it does wear for five to six hours and leaves behind a subtle tint.

Where to Buy: Sephora, $22

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream
Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream ($22.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “golden tangerine sheen.” It’s a vibrant orange with golden shimmer-sheen. It’s borderline retina-burning, honestly! It’s approved for use on the lips and cheeks (so not eyes). Whether it’s used more opaque or sheer, it’s a rich color and applies opaque. You would use the teeniest, tiniest bit to get a wash of color for blush or a lip tint. It has a more molten, deeper hue when layered (like the heavier swatch). OCC Banjee is lighter but still bright–it’s the only shade I could think of that came close to being a dupe. A lot of the other orange lipsticks I thought off are darker.  Maybelline Fierce & Tangy is much lighter.

MAC Petite Nail Lacquer Dazzlesphere Review, Photos, Swatches

You’ll find four miniature-sized polishes in Coach Outlet OnlineMAC’s Petite Nail Lacquer Dazzlesphere ($25.50 for 4 x 0.09 fl. oz.), and the shades include: Much Adored (sheer white pink with pearl), Style Tip (soft pink nude), Dark Angel (goth romantic dark lilac), and Mistletoe (pale gold). Of these, Dark Angel is a repromote, but the other three are new. The set is limited edition, as are all of the other sets from the collection.

Dark Angel was rather streaky on the first coat, and the second coat seemed to have a touch of streakiness, still. For such a dark cream, I would have expected a more trouble-free application, but it wasn’t bad–just average. Mistletoe was on the thicker side yet a little runny. It flows decently over the nail, and it doesn’t seem too gloppy, but it wasn’t perfect. It didn’t seem as bad as Immortal Gold, even though the two are very, very similar (and the timing is conicidental!). Much Adored and Style Tip didn’t have any application issues. I typically get a week of wear without chipping, just minor tip wear, with MAC’s lacquer formula.

  • Much Adored is a pale white gold with gold and pink shimmer. As noted in the description, it’s sheer, and I used two coats for swatches; you can still see plenty of visible nail line but there is a healthy dose of shimmer and shine. It’s a warmer sheer, so it helps warm up the natural nail color. It’s less opaque and has different colored shimmer compared to Chanel Pearl Drop. The shimmer in Much Adored looks coppery compared to Essie Kisses & Bisses, which looks pinker.
  • Style Tip is a light-medium nude with a hint of pink and cream finish. I used two coats for opaque color. MAC Hangin’ Loose is warmer and more peach-based. Zoya Pandora is closer but has subtle shimmer.
  • Dark Angel is a purple-berry cream. I used two coats for swatches, and it was nearly opaque. China Glaze Urban Night is in the same color family but much, much darker.
  • Mistletoe is a tarnished gold with a green-tint with a metallic finish. Brush strokes are visible in the finish. I used two coats for opaque color. It looks just like MAC Immortal Gold.
